10/16/2017 0 Comments Inspiration Post #3 Black & WhiteAssignment Description: For this assignment, I chose to take pictures with the theme of Black & White. I originally took photos pf my friends and later on altered them to Black and White in Photoshop. I chose to do this, because my favorite subject to take pictures of is People. Even though I already did the people subject in a previous assignment, I thought the Black and White could be a second opportunity. Final Photograph: f 4.0 shutter speed: 1/30 ISO: 100 Below are some other various photos I took: Assignment Summary: For this subject, I really wanted to show the characteristics and emotions of the models. I found that it was best to explore different angles and lighting. To do this, I walked around with my camera to find different angles, as well as completely moving to a different part of the barn that we took photos at. Overall, I really enjoyed this project, and had a great time with my friends during the photoshoot.
10/13/2017 0 Comments Panorama AssignmentFor this panorama assignment, I was required the take a scan of multiple pictures. With these, I combined them in photoshop to create a panorama. I chose to take photos of my backyard. Below, are the two final photos that I turned into my teacher. These next photos are three others that I took. What I learned: I found that when taking separate photos for a panorama, it was best to leave a large overlap when scanning across. This ensured that they could be connected to one picture in photoshop. One of my struggles was the sky in the background. The day I took these photos, the weather was very wet and cloudy. This made the sky look washed out, opposed to being detailed with various clouds in a pretty, blue sky. Overall, this was a great technique to learn, and I enjoyed taking these photographs.
10/9/2017 0 Comments People shooting assignmentDescription: For this photo assignment, I had to chose a subject to take photos of. I chose to take pictures of my sister, Sophia for the people assignment. Within this assignment, I had to use the techniques I previously learned in the beginning of the photography class. In this assignment, I mostly focused on depth of field, rule of thirds, and color. Final photo: f 2.8 shutter speed: 1/125 ISO: 160 A couple other photographs Summary: In this photoshoot, I was trying to show the person and their connection with nature. I struggled a bit with adjusting the ISO, shutter speed and aperture to create the perfect balance. I learned that using different angles can make a photo more interesting. I also learned how to work with the model and make them feel comfortable, while still capturing their characteristics and emotions. Overall, I really enjoyed this project. I had a great time with my sister, and took a lot of photos.
10/6/2017 0 Comments Photo retouching assignmentIn this assignment I had to take an original photo, and touch it up using Photoshop. I touched up what wasn't needed and I focused on the subject, the car. In photoshop, I used the crop tool, the clone stamp tool, the selection tool, and the paintbrush tool. original image edited photo What I was trying to copy What I was trying to show: I was trying to erase some of the shines and glares in the original photo to achieve the look of the demo photo. What I learned: In this assignment I learned how to navigate Photoshop better. I used tools like the clone stamp and the paintbrush tool, which i've never used before. Using the stamp tool, I tried to erase small imperfections. With the paintbrush, I attempted to change the color of a large area in the photo. I really enjoyed this project because it was much different from the previous assignments I've done.
9/29/2017 0 Comments September 29th, 2017In this assignment I had to create Andy Warhol inspired photo edit. 9/28/2017 0 Comments Animal shooting assignmentFinal photo: f 2.8 shutter speed: 1/80 ISO: 400 A couple other photographs This is my first shooting assignment and I chose the animal subject. I chose this subject because of love taking photographs of my dog, Chloe. She is very photogenic and does very nice poses that are perfect for photography. I learned how balance ISO, shutter speed, and aperture on manual. It was a challenge, but I really enjoyed the photoshoot with my dog.
9/26/2017 0 Comments Shutter and aperture assignmentShutterspeed assignment1/60 1/125 1/200 1/800 What I was trying to show: In the photo with the shutter speed of 1/40 I was trying to show Gabi Ragatz as a subject in motion, to create a blur. In the last photo, I used the shutter speed of 1/40 to show the subject in a stop and motion. What I learned: During this assignment I learned, how different a picture can look with a different shutter speed, and how shutter speed works with motion. With a faster shutter speed it can freeze an image, and the subject in an image when changed in motion. With a slower shutter speed, the image showed more blur from the subject in an image when changed in motion. Aperture assignmentf 2.8 3.5 f 5.0 f 8.0 What I was trying to show: In the first picture with an aperture of 2.8, I tried to have the main focus of the composition be the flowers. With f 2.8, the flowers that are closer to the lens are more of a blur, while the flowers behind it are in focus. For the picture with the aperture of 8.0, I was trying to get the flowers closer to the lens in focus, while the flowers in the back are out of focus because of a short depth of field. What I learned: In this assignment, I learned how to control the different apertures so that I could create different depths of field. One other thing I learned was how to focus on a certain subject, while the rest of the photograph is blurred out.

I review the different techniques that I previously learned. I learned to practice these techniques on a digital camera. Within these techniques, I learned how to show them with a certain type of light or angle. Welcome to Natalie Merkle Photography! I'm Natalie Merkle. I attend Saline High school in Saline, Michigan.
